Cinefest 2024 Jury

 

Claudia Capria

Claudia Capria is an IATSE 700 1st Assistant Editor in Los Angeles, CA. Knowing they never want to be a director, but still wanting to be heavily involved in the storytelling aspect of film and television, editing was a natural career path. When afforded the choice, Claudia does their best to select projects that align with voices they believe tell important stories from a variety of different, and necessary, perspectives. They’ve been lucky enough to work with a range of talented and diverse directors in a multitude of genres, from horror to international family films. 

Their most recent credits include Fancy Dance (in selects theaters this June), The Lamb (a Middle Eastern studio feature), and Weak Layers (available on Amazon Prime). Their first additional editing credit is for a feature-length documentary about Dr. Sally Gearhart, set to premiere later this year.  Previous credits include The Stroll (Max), Queenmaker: The Making of an It Girl (Hulu), 11 Minutes (Paramount+), and Rebel Hearts (Max).

In addition to their film career, Claudia holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Northeastern University and does social justice work where they can, including research, copy editing, and graphic design. They were part of a team working on preliminary research, reports, and exploration of what reparations in Boston, Massachusetts could look like under the guidance of Dr. Ted Landsmark. 

Fiorela Canaj

Fiorela Canaj is a Fairfield University alumni, class of 2011. She has over 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry working across scripted , digital and film. She worked at NBC as a scripted content executive across their cable channels for 4 years, now Peacock. Then moved into the digital content space working with a variety of creative agencies. 

Currently she works as a Manager of Business Development at Marvel Entertainment, owned by Disney.

She holds an MFA from UCLA’s Producers Program and has been an adjunct professor at Fairfield University for over 5 years.

Jim Clemente

Jim Clemente is a 2022 graduate from Fairfield University’s Film, Television and Media Arts program.  His senior capstone film Street Sale won awards for both screenwriting and production design at Cinefest 2022 and was recently featured at a screening for local filmmakers at the Fairfield Theatre Company.  

Jim is also an enthusiastic guitar player and musician, creative writer and cartoonist, veteran of the United States Air Force and, of course, a lifelong lover of movies!

Presently he is working on multiple screenwriting projects including an television series adaptation of Street Sale, an unauthorized adaptation of a short story by the poet Mark Strand, a realist film about a man’s struggles with homelessness and a comedy about pirates. 

Matt Ember

Matt Ember spent 15 years working on some of the most successful sitcoms in television, writing and producing Step by Step, The Hughleys, Grace Under Fire, The Drew Carey Show, Norm, Titus and Becker.

In 2004, he and fellow sitcom veteran Tom Astle began a string of number one feature films: Failure to Launch, Get Smart, the animated films Epic and Home, and then The War with Grandpa.

In 2019, Matt returned to television, consulting for three seasons of ABC’s The Conners.

Becky Krause

Becky Krause is a sketch comedy writer at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She lives in New York City. She has also worked for MTV and Comedy Central. 

She loves everyday interactions and observing real life. She keeps a journal where she documents things that happen. She also likes taking humor or memoir writing classes at Gotham Writers. 

Becky had her own film in Cinefest when she was a student. She studied Television Production and Creative Writing at Fairfield. She's excited to see everyone's work.
